For the past several years, I have hosted a little soré at my house to watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on TV. Because it’s always in December, it’s also my holiday party. My friends and I look forward to it! This year, I decided to make the party even more special by doing a charity drive for a wonderful Detroit organization – Starfish Family Services.
I attended a lovely Starfish fundraiser this past summer and was touched by the impact this organization is having on needy and impoverished families in Detroit.
I asked all my guests to bring unopened socks and underwear to the party which would be donated to fill the adopt-a-family requests from Starfish. We had an overwhelming amount of items brought donated, and we even raised some cash in the midst of all the excitement! The party was an absolute blast! We all had an awesome time getting together, dancing, having cocktails, celebrating the holidays, and being reminded that it’s always better to give than to receive. I only wish I would have been able to pay more attention to Candace and Lilly walking the runway!
To take it a step further, my friend Samantha and I also fulfilled a wish list for one of the therapy groups within Starfish. That list consisted of mostly games, like Uno, Jenga, Legos, that will be taken into families’ homes for “game night”.
Sam and I, along with her adorable daughter, delivered all the items to Starfish just in time for the holidays. They were so happy and appreciative. We were able to provide Christmas gifts for children who otherwise would have been without. Truly, a wonderful and satisfying feeling.
I am so thankful to everyone who donated! Even though it may not seem like a whole bunch, I know it meant a lot to them. Socks, underwear, games,and a few hundred dollars can go a long way to those in need.
