Changes

We get comfortable in our routines. In the way we feel rolling out of bed and walking down our creaky hallways to find our children already awake, snuggled in their favorite blankies, waiting for their good morning kisses. In the way our homes vibrate with giggles. In the way the smell of maple syrup makes us smile, seeing our husbands cooking on Sunday mornings. Everything we’ve built is here, where we’ve watched our kids grow and thrive, memories in every nook and cranny. But changes mean more growth, and though scary at times, embracing change is such an important lesson to teach our little ones. Change is good!

Soon, my family of 4 will be moving across town from our adorable, beloved home in Huntington Woods to our new home in Birmingham. While not far in distance, it’s enough to feel brand new and bittersweet.

We considered just staying put, renovating and adding on to accommodate our growing family. But despite fear and the desire to hold onto the past and all we know, such as the runners who cruise and down our street, we know it’s time to branch out, to grow in new ways!

While our Huntington Woods home was safe and tucked away, immersed in its own little community, the beauty of our new Birmingham home is giving Roman and Isabella a chance to experience a more downtown, vibrant lifestyle, walking to restaurants and stores.

Though changing homes is drastic and significant, there are many ways we can expose our kids to change. Maybe exploring a different park, or a new route to school, or new restaurants.

What else can we do to encourage our little ones to embrace change?
