My little boy is growing up way too fast! Roman started preschool this Fall and, of course, we documented it with some photographs. How could we not!?!
We enrolled him in Sacred Heart, a private Catholic school. Yes, we aren’t Catholic, but to me and my husband that doesn’t matter. To us, Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist–it’s all about the experience and cultural education. The more diverse the better. I just want my son in the best school possible, where the grounds are beautiful and the staff is welcoming, informed, and hands-on. As a new parent, you don’t know anything; I sure didn’t! And so it’s been a learning experience, but so far our choice has been nothing but amazing.
For the first two weeks, Roman cried every single time I dropped him off. Fortunately, I was prepared for that. He’s 3 years old after all and is used to always being at my side. I know how hard it can be for us moms to cut the cord and yet it’s so important to teach our little ones independence and self-confidence. I kept reminding myself this each day. Since Roman loves playing and that’s what preschool is all about, I knew he’d adjust eventually. Two weeks in, he stopped his morning fit. I don’t think he’s worried I’ll leave him forever; I’m back at 3PM sharp every day! He particularly enjoys pickup when he proudly parades me around his classroom and shows off his locker, opening and closing it.
Right now, our biggest hurdle is potty training. When he started at Sacred Heart, his teachers knew he still goes number two in his pants, and they were so great and understanding. Again, he’s 3, so they’re used to this. He’s slowly making progress and going much more often on the toilet, which is such a relief!
But it seems he’s not the only one learning; I’ve realized a few ways I need to adjust. His teachers pointed out something as simple as needing to better learn to put on his pants all by himself. I never thought I was one of those mothers who does everything for their child, but I realized I might be…at least a little. So preschool has been a positive experience for all of us!
